I moved out of the city and professional life in 1992. I now live in a passive solar straw bale house without running water and couldn't be happier.

I want my grandkids to have a chance at a decent life, so I "live simply so all can simply live."

Photo is of the dog I live with and his cat (a wild cat he brought in).

What Does HR-676 Actually Say?

From the page:
"HR-676 is the United States National Health Insurance Act (or the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act) sponsored by John Conyers and co-sponsered by some 91 congresspeople in the House. It is the so-called single payer bill supported by CNA/NNOC, PNHP, Health for Now and endorsed by many unions and other civic organizations."

Most of the sponsors and organizational endorsers are listed in the comments.

"A very interesting piece from the deleted scenes of Michael Moore's movie, "Sicko". "

Public Views on U.S. Health System Organization: A Call for New Directions - PDF

A new study by Harris Interactive for The Commonwealth Fund has found that a huge 82% of Americans believe that the US health care system needs either fundamental changes or complete rebuilding. Only minor changes needed: 16% Fundamental changes needed: 50% Rebuild completely: 32% You saw that right: twice as many Americans support a blow-it-up-and-start-all-over strategy, like single payer, as support the GOP do-nothing-and-wish approach.

Austin joins over 32 other municipalities, including Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco and Louisville, Ky., who have called for the bill's passage. Endorsements have also come from the New York and Kentucky State legislatures! And the U.S. Conference of Mayors endorsed HR-676 at its June meeting in Miami.

From the page: "AUSTIN, Texas - Affirming that "every person deserves access to affordable, quality health care" and noting that area residents are not getting it, the Austin City Council called today for the enactment of a nonprofit, single-payer national health insurance program.

" At its regular Thursday meeting, the Council voted to endorse the U.S. National Health Insurance Act, H.R. 676, sponsored by Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., and 91 other members of Congress. The vote was six in favor and one abstention.

Home Office Warrior - A Republican Rants . . .

From the page: "Why is it, those of us paying for your health care can't get the same health care coverage as you get Mr and/or Mrs. Politician? Can someone please explain that one to me. We are the only industrialized nation that does not guarantee access to health care as a right of citizenship. I am not saying it should be free. But, give us ALL the opportunity to pay for and obtain coverage. And it is those of us who are small business and self-employed who are hit the hardest.

"The problem is not that it wouldn't work. The problem is that our politicians have turned it into such a political quagmire, nothing can get done with it. And, I don't care what McCain and Obama say, neither of them will get crap done when it comes to universal health care. Because the largest special interest group, our federal government won't do it."
Stand Tall for America | Senator Ron Wyden

http://www.standtallforamerica.com/
Oregon's Senator Ron Wyden is now moonlighting as a salesman for the insurance industry: "The Healthy Americans Act would guarantee every American universal, affordable, comprehensive, portable, high-quality, private health coverage"

Wyden's bill contains a mandate to purchase health insurance, meaning he is advocating against genuine healthcare reform represented by HR 676, Rep. John Conyers' bill for an expanded and improved "Medicare for All."

We have reams of evidence from every other industrialized democracy that a system like Conyer's bill would provide would work, and would save money by getting rid of middlemen while providing real health "care" Of course it would also end health insurance company contributions to politicians like Wyden.
